OMEGA CANADA ELBOW-BENDER MARKS OLYMPIC TIMEKEEPING ROLE By Malcolm Parry, Vancouver Sun July 21, 2012
PLAY ON: Omega Canada hosted a decorous elbow-bender this week to mark the watchmaking parent firm's role as official timekeeper of 25 Olympic Games, beginning at Los Angeles in 1932. Many present were relieved to see 2010 ski cross gold medallist Ashleigh McIvor seemingly recovered from a potentially career-ending knee injury that entailed several surgeries. Yet to fall on one knee, Wisconsin-born Vancouver White-caps defender Jay DeMerit accompanied McIvor, as he has for 18 months. Recently selected for the MLS (Major League Soccer) all-star squad, he'll play against Britain's Chelsea team in Philadelphia July 25. Whoops and hollers echoing around Whistler then will be from McIvor and pals watching the game on television.
